Winter break is coming to a HALT. I say halt because it feels abrupt and destructive… lol. I love college breaks because they are LONG, almost too long after Christmas. It’s almost like a mini-summer. (??)
Getting back into the school routine can be tricky, especially if you have been working extra hours at your job, hosting family, constantly hanging out with friends & basically trying to squeeze in anything you have been dying to do all fall semester. In this case, getting into another routine can be really difficult, like did I even rest?! However, it’s easy to get into it with the right tips!!
I am a full-time student so I spend 8 hours of my day at school two days a week, the rest of the time I am at work/ the gym/ or doing homework. CR-A-ZZYY.
I am kind of obsessed with my routine once I get into it because it works successfully and makes my day not as dreadful with my tippity-tips.
School is the golden ticket for some people, in which case a solid routine to get you through the day will make it easy breazy (covergirl).
5 TIPS TO STAY ON TRACK WITH YOUR FITNESS AND EDUCATION GOALS
BRING LOTS OF WATER
For many this will be a “given”, however, I will still reiterate. WATER IS KEY. You should be drinking A LOT each and every day, ESPECIALLY at school. I try to drink 2-3 cups during each class. Water will literally help your brain focus, make your skin shine bright and keep everything flowin’ in the body…endless benefits really. So, unless you plan to spend all your time by the drinking fountain, invest in a LARGE water bottle (forget plastic bottle/help save the planet) and bring it with you every damn day! DRINK UP, stay hydrated.
PACK A FULL DAYS WORTH OF MEALS & SNACKY-BOOTIES
PLAN, PLAN, PLAN! Spend the night before getting sandwiches, salad, fruit, veggies and grainy snacks ready to go for the day ahead. In order to have a successful school day, one must have a satisfied tummy all day long. I find packing a lunch saves me time and money in the long run. Sure, I have every fast food chain imaginable by my campus but then I lose my parking spot (and I did not fight till the death for this spot for nothing!) & at least 15-30 minutes of my day where I can be relaxing by a shady tree or warm in the library. Also, having healthy food at all times helps you keep your physique nice and tight that you have worked on for soooo long. Keep your fitness goals and have healthy snacks on you. My meal prep guide here & here.
GET FARMILLAR WITH YOUR SCHOOL’S GYM
Every (main campus) college has a fully equipped GYM for the most part and as a student you have the luxury of using it FOR FREE. I had to sign up for a class at my campus, it was a 1 unit course and all I had to do was check into the gym at least 30 times to pass and I had all semester to finish (DOPE!!). If you get farmillar with the schools gym options, plan ahead & have a long enough break in your schedule you can be getting a 15-60 minute workout in almost everyday AND possibly some extra units! NO EXCUSES. Even if you are just stretching waiting for your next class (outside of course) you should be able to get SOME sort of movement in. Working out shouldn’t be such a chore, especially to those of you reading this post, I KNOW you are not a lazy bum!!
GET A LOT OF SLEEP!
Getting enough sleep… I can’t even stress this factor enough. Young women should be getting at LEAST 7 hours a night if not 8! Gals, whether you know it or not our bodies are changing so much all the time & as a woman it takes like 20 minutes to shut off our brains & fall asleep (well at least for me, I can’t shut up!!). Enough sleep makes our bodies work better; especially those of us frying our brains with information at school and then working our bodies just as hard at the gym– WE NEED MAJOR REST.Once you are getting enough you will feel unstoppable, I promise. When you wake up, eat a healthy breakfast. For more info on the importance see my breakfast post here.
It’s so easy to get burnt out after months of doing the same damn routine and going to the same damn classes. So make sure you are “pep talking” yourself constantly. Do things that make you happy, often. If you feel like treating yourself to a fancy coffee before class DO IT. If you feel like a cocktail after a long day in CHEM lab & lecture, treat yourself! Make a “vision board” and hang it on your wall so you see it everyday; it should have pictures, quotes, ideas– full of all of the dreams you are working on accomplishing at school.
& remember, you are a BAD ASS CREATURE. Going to school, working, homework & hitting the gym… NOTHING IS AS ATTRACTIVE AS A BABE ON THE GRIND. ❤ You are fabulous & I love you.
Good luck babes!
